Montenegro Guide

Europes undiscovered hideaway
'At the birth of our planet, the most beautiful encounter between land and sea happened at the coast of Montenegro. When the pearls of nature were sown, handfuls of them were cast on this soil.' LORD BYRON
Situated on the Adriatic, to the south of Croatia and Bosnia, Montenegro covers an area of approximately 13,800 km2 and contains four wild and stunning national parks, the spectacular Bay of Kotor and an abundance of coastal scenery. This small country certainly offers far more than its modest size initially suggests.

The coastal regions boast a typically Mediterranean climate, with the interior mountains rising to 2522m in Durmitor National Park. Imagine any type of outdoor activity and the chances are that Montenegro is ideal. Sailing, swimming, diving and many other water sports can be enjoyed throughout a long summer season extending from April to October. The traditional beach holiday is well catered for here, especially to the south at Ulcinj's aptly named 13km "Long Beach". The mountains are ideal for hiking, mountain biking, camping and climbing in summer. Skiing is popular in winter months. Fishing, bird watching, painting holidays and Eco-Tourism are also increasingly being catered for.

Recognised as an ecological state in 1992 , we believe that the future success of this country is dependant on managing the delicate balance between promoting the growth of tourism and sustaining the ecological wilderness in their pristine condition.
